I already explained this on my website www.christinethecoach.com/answers/what-is-life-coaching but in this blog post I will go into more details.
As explained on my website Life Coaching is not Mentoring, Therapy or Counselling. I depends on which Life Coach you are hiring. He/She might be a directional Coach, a non-directional Coach, a Coach and Mentor etc. In this blog post I am going to focus on Life Coaches.
Life Coaches use different asking techniques to open your mind, explore new options and will also challenge you. Non-directional Coaches will ask neutral questions, so they won’t push you in a certain direction. Because what is very important to acknowledge is: What is right for the Coach, might not be right for you.
There are a lot of models that Coaches are following. One of the more known ones is called GROW model.
Goal – get clear on your goal
Reality – check where you are now and how realistic your goal is
Options – explore options
Will/When – put an action plan together and check how willing you are to achieve your goal
There are also other ones. I, for example, have learned the COACH model.
Clarity – get really clear on your goal
Options – discover and discuss options
Actions – put an action plan together
Character – check how motivated and willing you are to achieve your goal
Help & Support – explore who and what can help you to achieve your goal.
As you can see, the models are very similar. Well, all of these should all have the same outcome in mind: You being clear on what you want to achieve and how you can achieve it.
A Coach supports you during that journey and helps you taking action.
