I graduated in the summer of 2013 and entered a new phase of my life. 2014 has been the year of new beginnings for me. It’s the first time in my life where I am completely free to make my own decisions and choices, regardless of the outcome. I felt free, suddenly it seemed like I had an unlimited amount of time to think about and act on my future.
At university I studied many things, among them was the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility. The theory of businesses being socially responsible fascinated me. The concept made sense but I felt that it wasn’t as easily accessible or understandable as it should have been. This thought process was my first step into creating Project Change 2014.
Project Change 2014 is a social enterprise designed to support businesses, charities and new business ventures. The businesses can support the project by buying space on the homepage of the website and become ambassadors of the project. As ambassadors they will help spread the message of caring for society through business activity. All the businesses involved would have their company logo displayed on the website and they would directly benefit from the positive publicity and brand awareness that the project would create. By helping others they would see benefits which they may not achieve through traditional marketing campaigns while also creating a better future for those in need.
Being socially responsible and caring for others has always been something that I’ve been passionate about. I was taught to think like this from a young age, by my family, particularly my mother. She taught me to give to the less fortunate and to cherish everything that I have. Unfortunately she passed away 3 years ago and I was determined to create something that would make her proud and that would carry on her message. I believe this project helps me do that.
Business is full of challenges and new experiences. It can be very overwhelming and scary but I feel it’s the best thing you can do. To have complete control over your life, to mould your future into what you want it to be and hopefully help others through the process? There is nothing better than that. The one thing that this project has taught me is that there is nothing more valuable than your dreams and that you must follow them.
