Networking is essential for every start-up. You might have heard this before but it is true “People buy people”.
Networking will build relationships between you and potential client. Even if the person you are talking to is not a direct potential client, that person might know someone who will be.
Where to network
Well, these days you can network online in portals such as LinkedIn. But the most powerful networking is still in person. Find events and groups that are of interest for you and where you can find your target audience. Portals such as meetup and Eventbrite make it easy to find these groups. Often you can attend the events for free or for a small fee. There are other options. For example to become a member of an organisation that holds regular networking events. Me, for example, I am a member of Business Scene. Search for groups that are within your reach.
Before going to a networking event, you should practice the so called ‘elevator pitch’, take enough business cards with you and think about what you want out of the event. For more networking tips download my networking tips on my feebies page.
